In support of suicide prevention, the Chemung County Department of Mental Hygiene held its 19th annual “Walk A Mile in My Shoes” event on Saturday, May 4, at Eldridge Park in Elmira, New York.
Kennedy Valve has been a long-term partner of this event, and this year, 106 team members and their families participated. Overall, the event brought in over 1,000 attendees to further the initiative for suicide awareness and prevention. More than $15,000 was raised for this very important cause. Thank you to everyone who participated!
In 2021, an estimated 12.3 million American adults seriously thought about suicide, with 1.7 million attempting suicide. It is more common than you think and more preventable than you know. If you are experiencing mental health-related distress or are worried about a loved one who may need crisis support, contact the National Suicide Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK or call (911).
